Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg

How many wonderful places there are in St. Petersburg, where everything breathes art and history - palaces, parks and streets. In order to go everywhere and see everything, it would take your whole life. But the heart of the city and its hallmark has been and still remains the Nevsky Prospekt.

The tourists come here to admire the beautiful buildings along the sidewalks as the native Russians are rushing to work in cities.
As is known, Nevsky - one of the oldest streets of the city, was constructured beginning from both ends. The first part had been constructed through the dense forests and swamps as the other end was being built from the Admiralty to Novgorod road (modern Ligovskiy). This was a direct and extensive clearing. And in 1710 after the founding of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, monastic officials interested in a large number of parishioners, began to construct the road from the monastery to the Novgorod road. The joining of the two ends have formed the long street called the Nevsky Prospect.

Since then, the center of the road was built, surrounded by palaces and public buildings, mansions and apartment houses. Because this road has existed for many yes, many houses along the side of the road were rebuilt, changed, restored.

The Nevsky Prospect street stretches for 4.5 km from the Admiralty to the Alexander Nevsky Monastery. It crosses the River Sink, Griboedov, Fontanka (Anichkov Bridge). The maximum width is 60 m (at the Guest court), the lowest is 25 m (from the river Moyka).
