Hermitage. St. Petersburg

Today we visit the Hermitage. Now it is one of the largest museums in the world. In 1764, Empress of Russia Catherine II acquired in Germany 225 paintings by Flemish and Dutch artists. History of the Hermitage started with this collection.

The exhibitions, museum departments and services are located in 10 buildings, 7 of which are monuments of Russian architecture of the XVIII and XIX centuries. The 225 paintings have grown to approximately 3,000,000 exhibits now shown here.
