Yaroslavl is a city of churches. Almost all of them were built in 17th century. At this time Yaroslavl was a big and wealthy city. Many rich merchants were building stone churches. Many famous artists from Yaroslavl and Moscow painted icons, walls of churches, made ornamented tiles, bells. Many of those churches were destroyed in 1930's.
